CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – After a two year hiatus due to the pandemic, about 30 kids had the time of their lives at Camp Rainbow.

Camp Rainbow provides opportunities for children with neurodivergence, disabilities and terminal illnesses to enjoy summer camp like many other children.

Everyone seemed excited to be back after a couple of years apart.

This year was Camp Rainbow’s 40th anniversary, with the theme being good vibes. A lot of the events were centered around classic music. Many of the kids have been campers for several years, and the same goes for the counselors. In fact, there are even some counselors who were once campers themselves.

Each camper is paired up with their own counselor to insure they get the care and special attention they deserve.

This year, the kids got to partake in events such as a carnival, a foam party, four-wheel riding, a canoe race, and much more.

Clarksville Now got the opportunity to speak with a couple of campers who told us what their favorite things were about camp.

Ayden has been coming to camp for 5 years and said that his favorite thing to do was swim.

When another longtime camper, Noah, was asked what his favorite thing about camp is, he said, “everything, but if I had to choose one thing, all of the amazing people.”

Addy told Clarksville Now that she suffers from brain tumors, and Camp Rainbow is one of her favorite things to look forward to.

“I just love it when I go to camp, and it’s nice to be here whenever I can because it’s hard whenever you have brain tumors and you can’t think straight,” Addy said.

Jereme Miner is the director of Camp Rainbow, and his family has been running the camp for 4 generations.

“It was great to be back at Brandon Springs, we had an amazing group of volunteers and it turned out to be an extremely good week,” Miner told Clarksville Now.

Every year, The Beaver 100.3 hosts a two-day radiothon where all of the funds go to Camp Rainbow. This past year they raised over $65,000.
